Say Cheese!

I was finally able to get a smile out of Owen and capture it with the camera! He is such a cutie! He is sitting in his Boppy bouncy seat and actually likes it. (I wasn't sure he would since the swing hasn't been that big of a hit with him.)

What a difference a month makes

Owen is 5 weeks old and although we've been taking videos of him, I haven't had the time to post any. He is really smiling at me now and yesterday he began making oohs and aahs trying to talk to me - it's so neat to see him really interacting. The videos here are from 1 week and 5 weeks - amazing to see how much he's changed in that short amount of time.

Owen update

He's 4 weeks today! Time is really flying by. We went to the doctor today for a well-baby check up and Owen got another A+ report! He weighs 11 pounds 5 ounces and is 22.5 inches long! He has gained 3 pounds in just 3 weeks - I knew all that nursing was going to pay off! He began to smile at me last week and I've had a few witnesses so that y'all know I'm not making it up (although Keith isn't believing it until he sees it himself). I've finally gotten my announcements finished (thanks Paula!) and my pictures printed so you should be receiving them soon. Owen and I have been walking/strolling almost every day and he seems to be enjoying it. Well, that's it for today's update. I'll try to get a video of him up soon (I've tried to tape him smiling but so far, no luck). Talk to you all again soon.

Two Weeks!

Well, our little man is two weeks old today. He is such a cute little guy and makes us smile all the time (even at two in the morning from a dead sleep). He squeaks and grunts while he sleeps and makes the cutest faces, including lots of smiles (although I'm waiting patiently for the real social smile that is a few weeks away). He's gaining weight and I can tell that he's getting bigger by the way he fills out his tiny little shirts. He still enjoys eating and sleeping but he's added waking for an hour at a time to his activities as well as snoozing in his stroller while we walk around the neighborhood.

Introducing Owen Michael

We are so excited to introduce everyone to our precious little bundle, Owen Michael. He was born on our anniversary, Monday, September 8, 2008 at 11:01 pm, weighing 8 lbs, 2 oz and measuring 20.5 inches long. He is very healthy and as of his first pediatrician's appointment on Monday, September 15, he had regained his birth weight plus one ounce! He loves to eat, snuggle, and when he's awake he enjoys looking around and watching people talk to him. He's the cutest thing we've ever seen and we're just in awe that he is all ours. Here are just a few of the many pictures we've taken during our first week with our prince.

We're baaaaack!

Well, we did evacuate to avoid Gustav but we've returned. We went to Little Rock, Arkansas which under better circumstances would have been a neat place to explore but we were exhausted and worried and really didn't do much other than sit in front of the tv hoping they would tell us that the hurricane was really not that big of a deal. When we returned we were lucky enough to have electricity, water, and no home damage, although the back yard was a huge mess and we still have a neighbor's tree stuck in one of our trees.

We're keeping an eye on hurricane Ike and hoping that he fizzles out or goes somewhere else.

On the baby front, so far he's happy where he is and is not looking like he'll be showing his cute face any time soon. I went to the doctor the day we returned, Wednesday, and she reported that nothing had changed. I'll go back next Wednesday, Sept 10 and I'll let you all know if there's any change. I guess the room and board along with the 24/7 buffet is just too much for him to give up to join us out here but we're hoping he'll decide it might be worth it soon.

Since we don't have any baby pics yet, you can enjoy the mess that was our yard (although compared to many people, it was just an annoyance more than anything else).

If you look closely, you can see the large branch going sideways in the middle of the cypress tree - we're going to have to go talk to the neighbors because so far they haven't budged to address this little problem and it's too dangerous for Keith to attempt to take care of it himself.

Welcome to Babyland!

Can you believe that the big day is only about 2 weeks away (give or take a few days depending on the little guy's plans). We've put the car seat in the car and our bags are (mostly) packed. My list of before-baby-to-do items has shrunk and grown and shrunk again over the last couple of weeks. I am constantly thinking of more "last-minute" things to get done.

The baby's room is finally finished (with the exception of hanging a picture and finding a lamp shade) and so I thought you might all like some pictures. I tried to get as many shots as possible so that you could see the whole room.

He's got just a few (ha) books as you can see. (And there are lots more in the closet that wouldn't fit on the book shelf)

And last, but not least.... the stroller!! Courtesy of Poppa! I can't wait to put our little guy in it and go for a walk around the neighborhood.
